Open water swimming is relaxing
If extreme swimming sounds like something you would love to try, then it is very important to train first by building up your swimming skills and your strength. If you´ve always been the most adventurous out of your friends - because while you´re normally off rock climbing or snorkeling in the sea, they are on their laptop in an internet cafe playing partypoker and topping up their tans - then you might find the swimming tips below useful. While you train, it is important to incorporate plenty of protein into your diet as it helps to build strong and healthy muscles.
Swimming is not only a relaxing sport, but it is one of the best forms of exercise. The great thing about swimming is that it doesn´t put strain on your joints like running does. The water takes your weight which allows you to build and strengthen your muscles.
Arm exercises - Get yourself a small float, then lie on your back and wrap your feet around it. Then swim 4 lengths of backstroke without kicking your legs. After you´ve completed this, turn onto your stomach, flip your feet over and swim in breaststroke for another 4 lengths.
Leg exercises - Get yourself a set of Aqua Fitness Barbells and choose the lightest one to begin with. Sit on the edge of the pool, making sure your knees and feet are underwater. Place the weight over your feet and lift it up and down. You can increase your endurance by attempting to hold the weight up for as long as you can.
